Chief Warrant Officer 2 Patrick B. Montgomery

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Patrick B. Montgomery is the Operations Officer and Assistant Director of “The Commandant’s Own,” United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps. CWO2 Montgomery started his musical instruction by taking piano lessons from his musically gifted mother at the age of 9. As a military child, he participated in several middle and high school bands around the country until graduating from Arbor View High School in Las Vegas, NV, earning the John Phillip Sousa award as a senior. He then attended the University of Florida and studied percussion under Dr. Kenneth Broadway. At UF, CWO2 Montgomery was a member of the “Pride of the Sunshine” Gator Marching Band, wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, percussion ensemble, and steel band. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Degree in 2014.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Montgomery’s drum corps career began in 2009 with Legends Drum & Bugle Corps. After joining Legends again in 2011, he marched with Teal Sound Drum & Bugle Corps in 2012. He concluded his member-career in 2013 with the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps. After serving on staff at Colts Drum & Bugle Corps as a snare drum technician, CWO2 Montgomery enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2014 and completed Recruit Training aboard MCRD Parris Island in January of 2015.

After earning the distinction of Honor Graduate at Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry east in February of 2015, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Montgomery reported to Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. for duty with “The Commandant’s Own,” United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps. Since then, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Montgomery has served in a variety of billets to include Section Leader, Music Instructor, NCO Drum Major, SNCO Conductor, Administrative Chief, and Assistant Operations Chief.

In November 2022, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Montgomery was competitively selected to become the next Operations Officer and Assistant Director of the “The Commandant’s Own.” He reported to The Basic School in January 2023 and completed the Warrant Officer Basic Course in May of 2023.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Montgomery’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Good Conduct Medal with one bronze star in lieu of second award.
